Adoption Process

Adoption Process

Every prospective adopter is interviewed by one of our volunteers, either in person at the adoption site or through email. The goal is to place the right cat with the right person. If the potential adopters have a particular cat in mind, they can talk to the cat’s foster parent or to other volunteers to ascertain whether the cat would be a good fit for the household. Adoptions do not happen the same day; we will arrange a time for the foster parents and a volunteer to bring the kitty to the adoptive home.

To begin the adoption process email us at adoption@icraeastbay.org or come by our adoption site on Saturday.

Our adoption fee structure is:

  • Cats and kittens (under 8 years): $100
  • Cats (over 8 years): $75
  • Two cats adopted together: full amount of the higher fee, half the amount of the lower or same fee; e.g. a kitten and a cat (under 8) would be $100.00 + 50.00 = $150.00

Prior to adoption all cats and kittens are:

  • Spayed or neutered
  • FeLV and FIV tested
  • FVRCP vaccinated (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis – Calicivirus – Panleukopenia (aka distemper/infectious enteritis)
  • Dewormed
  • Treated for fleas with Frontline or Advantage
